PI Gorlatova co-led a breakout session focused on edge AI and low power computing at the 2025 NSF Computer Systems Research (CSR) PI meeting in Boca Raton, FL, jointly with Prof. Mahadev Satyanarayanan (CMU).
The challenges and opportunities of this exciting era are immense. As eloquently noted by one of the breakout session participants, large multimodal models are about to drive an explosion of mobile applications, in a range of new platforms such as XR headsets and autonomous and human-facing robotic systems. Computer systems researchers can offer unique, much-needed, perspectives: considerations for energy, bandwidth, and other resources; ability to reason across complex multi-dimensional constraints and tradeoffs.
